- "Please stay behind the yellow line at all the times. Stay as far from tracks as possible. This is for your own safety".
This is what I got to hear at the Harris Park train station, Paramatta. This was a public announcement for 'me' apparently, as there were only a few (read 7) people with us on the platform. And I was the only one fooling around on "the other side of the yellow line" (trying to click a couple of shots). :P

- Machine beeps -"No card accepted". Rits goes and gets the cash from ATM down the road. (Though there was a slot for card which wasn't working.)
"Only coins accepted". He goes and gets some change from the shop across the street. (again there was a slot for notes but wasn't accepting the notes for some reasons.)
"A maximum of 10 coins accepted". He goes again and gets coins of $1 and $0.50.
And then we discovered that we were short $2 (in coins).
This is what happened at Homebush train station where there was NO ticket counter but only ticket vending machine which accepted only coins, that too, 10, 20, 50 cents and 1 dollar. And only a maximum of 10 coins. So after 3 trips to ATM, and shop, outside the station, we were still short. Train was about to come in 3 mins (next one was after 30 mins)
Lucky, we saw some guys coming (later found out that they were Australian Indians) and we asked them for change and they gladly helped. Many thanks.

Point of the post - In a city (like Sydney) with so much surveillance as to announce a message of personal safety on public announcement system, for a particular individual, they don't have a ticket counter/or a properly working ticket machine at some stations. (How is anyone supposed to get a ticket from that station if he doesn't have to have any change and/or adequate number of coins?).
So Sydney could be as dysfunctional as any Indian city. :) (Did I just made a smiling smiley? I am an Indian after all. *wink*)
